How to test Blood Sugar

How to test Blood Sugar (2nd version)

Heads up!

Please watch the above videos to learn how to measure blood glucose.  These videos demonstrate how to measure BG on yourself, but remember you will be performing this on a patient. As a result, please wear gloves!! Another difference is that in our case, the patient does not have access to the sink, so they cannot wash their hands. Please wipe and clean their hands using an alcohol swab. After pricking their finger, wipe off the first drop of blood with a cotton ball. Do this because the first drop is contaminated with alcohol and can skew readings. Pro tip: never wipe off the drop of blood until you have a reading in the meter. Sometimes you will get an error sign. If you wipe off the blood and get an error, you'll have to repeat the whole process again (new lancet, new alcohol swab, new cotton ball, etc)
